Organic, GMO, and Conventional Agriculture!

Organic Agriculture is a production system that sustains the health of soils, ecosystems, and people. Conventional farming is a method of farming in which the use of GMO’s, chemical pesticides/herbicides, and chemical fertilizers is allowed. A GMO (genetically modified organism) is an organism whose genetic material has been altered by means of genetic engineering or biotechnology. How do I feel about Organic vs Conventional Agriculture? I feel that Organic Agriculture is better for the environment.  If you specifically want your food to be grown without certain pesticides or additives, you may prefer “organic” agriculture. Often, crops grown organically usually are not grown close to your home or grocery store. So I would much rather eat locally, and buy a conventional agriculturally grown crop that was closer to my home. Are GMOs safe? I do think that GMOs are safe. I would for sure choose Conventional Agriculture. Whatever they have to do to make the crops more productive and abundant, as long as it is safe, I am fine with it. More than 85 percent of soybeans grown in the United States are GMO crops. Overall demand for agricultural products is expected to increase 1.1 percent per year from 2005/07 to 2050. It is the law that all food, and any ingredients, directly grown from a GMO must be labelled, even if the GMO is unnoticeable  in the final product. What is the difference between organic and natural? Organic food refers to food items that are produced and manufactured using organic means defined by certifying bodies such as the USDA under its Organic Food Products Act. Natural food generally refers to food items that are not altered chemically or synthesized in any form. Is Organic products always GMO free? 100% Organic products must contain 100 percent organically produced ingredients. But USDA Organic must have at least 95 percent of organic content. My opinion is that conventional agriculture is better than organic.  This is because I agree to using fertilizers while growing crops or products. Therefore, I do think that GMOs are okay.
